Soul includes 150 southern soul food recipes that look uniformly delicious thanks to great photographs.
With chapters focusing on a single ingredient, each chapter in Soul progresses from simple to complex recipes. The chapters include: Collards, Onions, Berries, Lamb, Seafood, Corn, Tomatoes, Melons, Stone Fruit, Eggs and Poultry, Pork and Beef, Beans and Rice, and Roots.
Soul includes menus and playlists plus wine and beer pairings. It includes simple traditional soul food fused with other cuisines like Fried Green Tomatoes made with tomatillos and ancho chili BBQ sauce and Chicken and Waffles with sweet potato waffles. Some are ideas I have never seen before like zucchini slaw. Since the book doesn’t contain nutritional information, I have to take off one star leaving it at 4 stars!
Thanks to the publisher, Southern Living, and NetGalley for a copy.

Another sword and sorcery tale without the quest from Vol 1.
Emerane and her friends destroyed the Cult and saved Umber in Vol 1. But who will rise from the ashes to run the city now. The government is corrupt and working solely for the rich. The city’s peacekeepers are unpaid. When the parliament sends in a military force, there is chaos in the street.
Night’s Dominion Vol 2 sets the stage for an excellent vol 3 but doesn’t move the story arc much. There are only four issues included here compared to the six in Vol 1. The artwork is beautiful as always. Be aware that there are some sexual situations and nudity in this volume. 3 stars!
Thanks to the publisher, Oni Press, and NetGalley for an advanced copy.

“It all started with a tooth. A metal tooth that could bring the dead back to life.”
Green Lantern senses an evil presence emanating from the deep recesses of the Batcave. The Joker escapes from his electronic cage. Batman is given a dagger by his ex, Talia, to help him in his search for the elusive 8th metal. Meanwhile, the Joker is playing his tricks. This time he says he is trying to help Batman by destroying a machine. You know you’re in for some bad sh*t when the Greek Gods go back to Olympius and bar the door.
The two Dark Days’ prelude stories, Forge 1 and Casting 1, are the best in this volume. Both the art and story are superb. The other stories vary in quality and relationship to Dark Nights Metal. All are interesting for showing how art and writing styles have changed over the years. Other stories included are:
- Final Crisis 6-7,
- Batman: Return of Bruce Wayne 1
- Batman 38-39
- Nightwing 17
- Detective Comics 950
- Multiverse Guidebook 1
If you plan to read Dark Nights: Metal when its collection is released June 12, Dark Days: Road to Metal is a great reminder of its backstory. Plus it’s a great value at 256 pages. The artwork, especially of the Joker and mecha-Batman from the cover, is beautiful and detailed. The dark multiverse plot forcing an epic war is great and continues down the recent dark path of Batman.
Dark Days: Road to Metal is highly recommended. 5 stars!
Thanks to the publisher, DC Comics, and NetGalley for an advanced copy. Now onto my ARC of Dark Nights Metal. I can’t wait! Review to be published on its June 12 publication date.
