The Invisible Woman

The Invisible Woman

Women over a certain age and weight tend to be invisible in modern American society. Elinor, a former FBI agent, is counting on that when she goes undercover as a nanny. The head of the household is a suspected cartel kingpin. Her former FBI boss, and the person who got her fired, tells Elinor this may be a way to get her old FBI job, and her fat government pension, reinstated. There are two problems with his plan. Elinor has to wear a fat suit and makeup to look the part. Worse, Elinor has no experience with children and now she will be dealing with a baby and a surly teenager. Can Elinor successfully become The Invisible Woman and bring down a dangerous cartel?

I loved the characters within this book. In fact, I would love to see this be the beginning of a series. The humor of Elinor being completely clueless was a nice break from the serious themes. Surprisingly, the mystery/thriller aspects of the plot were much too easy to figure out. I expected more from the author of the Alex Cross series. For that reason, I recommend this book to women’s fiction (aka chick lit) readers rather than mystery or thriller readers. 4 stars!

Thanks to NetGalley and Little, Brown & Company for providing me with an advanced review copy.
