Joy to the Bones is the 31st and last book in the Sarah Booth Delaney cozy mystery series. And this time it’s personal.
Sarah Booth’s parents died in a solo car crash when she was young. Twenty years later she discovers that everyone was suspicious but did nothing to look for her parents’ murderers. Sarah Booth, her boyfriend Sheriff Coleman, and a slew of friends investigate. But has it been too long to solve the mystery much less punish the guilty?
Despite solving the mystery underlying the other 30 books in the series, Joy to the Bones is my least favorite book in the series. It seemed schmaltzy and overly sentimental. I can understand why the author would feel that way after literally decades of writing about these characters. But it permeated the usual fun of this series. And not in a good way. However, I did love the way the conclusion wrapped up all the series’ loose ends. RIP Sarah Booth et al.
4 stars for Joy to the Bones for series fans. But read at least some of the other books in the series before reading this one.
Thanks to NetGalley and Minotaur Books for providing me with an advanced review copy.
