How to Kill a Guy in Ten Dates

How to Kill a Guy in Ten Dates

In How to Kill a Guy in Ten Dates, Jamie is a fan of both slasher movies and romantic comedies. She and her roommate/bff Laurie decide to go to a speed dating event little knowing that her knowledge of each will be needed to survive the evening.

Both types of movies have rules that must be followed (i.e.; never say “I’ll be right back”). So when Jamie’s penultimate date is killed right in front of her, Jamie responds with proven final girl behavior. As the dater’s evening continues to descend into madness, can Jamie’s familiarity with both genres save both her and Laurie’s lives?

It helps if you are a fan of these types of movies, particularly 1980s and 90s films. There are a bunch of Easter eggs throughout the plot that increased my enjoyment. The rom com quotes not-so-subtly changed to horror beginning each chapter (and everyone’s name) were a delight. However, if you aren’t a cinephile, this tale of survival against incredible odds will keep you flipping pages well into the night trying to decide who is the murderer and who is the romantic interest. Or could they be one and the same?

If you want a cinematic whirlwind ride through both slasher and rom-com tropes, How to Kill a Guy in Ten Dates is a must add to your to-be-read pile. I loved it! 5 stars and a favorite.
