In Gingerbread Danger, Bailey is a co-owner, with her Amish grandmother, of the Swissmen Sweets candy shop in rural Harvest, Ohio. She has also recently opened Swissmen Candyworks, a factory producing the same tasty treats in bulk. The busy holiday season is just beginning when one of the factory’s Amish employees, Zeph, falls from its roof to his death. Was it simply an icy roof mishap or is something more sinister going on? Bailey must investigate with her Sheriff fiancé, Aiden, all while babysitting the famously troublemaking, but so dang cute, pig, Jethro.
It is always a pleasure visiting Harvest when their Christmas decorations and events are in full swing. This year pushy town PR person, Margot, has created a life sized Candyland game on the village square liberally peppered with Swissmen Sweets candies. Bailey’s grandmother has even created a new treat, Gingerbread Fudge, for the occasion. Even better the recipe is included within the book too.
The mysteries are a bit of a challenge in this cozy mystery too. Along with Zeph’s fall, Bailey and Aiden also have to determine who is robbing local merchants. Are the events related? In the meantime, will Bailey’s visiting mother plan Aiden and Bailey’s marriage ceremony without any input from them?
With the perfect mix of mystery solving and holiday cheer, Gingerbread Danger is the perfect book for these cool fall evenings. 4.5 stars!
