I’m not even from the East Coast but I remember Crazy Eddie from the satires of him on Saturday Night Live. I never heard that his whole empire was based on scams until I read Retail Gangster.
As a former internal auditor, I found this book a hoot! You can make a good case that everyone, from Eddie to his family to the Wall Street investors to the purchasers trying to buy a nice stereo cheap, was a scammer. This is a fascinating and in depth look at Eddie’s life and how the scams just kept getting larger until he was caught. The author captures sophisticated financial crimes without using technical jargon. Retail Gangster is truly for anyone looking for an entertaining biography about a legendary character. 4 stars!
Thanks to Hachette Books and NetGalley for a digital review copy of the book.
I had no idea that was the genesis of those SNL sketches! Looks like a really interesting read
