A longbow as tall as the archer. A tapestry capturing a battle scene that is 75 yards long. A castle that burns 1,000 candles per night. Everything is bigger in an Inside Out Medieval Castle.
From the security built into the entrance to the stone toilets dropping waste into the moat, all aspects of medieval castles are covered here. This heavily illustrated look into the middle ages also discusses the workers within the castle and its lords, ladies, and knights.
Ever since watching Game of Thrones, I have been fascinated by the mechanics of the middle ages. Inside Out Medieval Castle provides a detailed look inside that long ago era. It is fully illustrated with both photographs of real castles and illustrations of their individual parts. Even though I am clearly past the age group to which this book is marketed, I really enjoyed reading it. And I learned a lot too! It is truly amazing what humanity can create to defend or attack a huge stone building. 4.5 stars!
Thanks to becker&meyer! kids, Quarto Books and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.
