My Review
In Murder Strikes a Chord, Cassidy is the owner of an event space that she inherited from her grandmother in the Blue Ridge Mountains. She also inherited her grandmother’s four sixty something friends, who work part-time for the company.
This weekend is Cassidy’s first multi-weekend oldies music festival starring Johnny Storm and the Weathermen, a rock sensation in the 1970s. Unfortunately, Johnny is found garroted in the venue’s koi pond following the first day’s show.
The media begins circling Cassidy’s place looking for a scoop on Johnny’s death. One of Cassidy’s part time employees, Roxie, is the prime suspect of the police. Cassidy feels she has to investigate the murder both to free Roxie from suspicion but also to save her venue’s reputation.
Murder Strikes a Chord is a sweet cozy mystery with a definite budding attraction between the police’s hot Deputy Turner and Cassidy. The location was described beautifully. I would like to visit there myself.
All the characters in the book feel genuine. The band described in the book feels exactly like a real band. As my bass player friend described it, “it’s like being married to three other guys that all have their own hopes and dreams that almost never coincide.” The four female employees that Cassidy inherited, known locally as the Pearly Girls, provide a welcome bit of comic relief. Their antics, especially still wild and sexy Roxie, are great fun.
The mystery was just challenging enough to make Murder Strikes a Chord a relaxing summer read. I can’t wait to see what Cassidy and the Pearly Girls get up to in the next book in the series. 4 stars!
