In The Guilt Trip, three British couples go to a destination wedding in Portugal where secrets are revealed, and marriages are tested.
Will and drama queen Ali are getting married. Will’s brother, Jack, is best man and attends with his wife, Rachel. Rachel and Jack’s friends, Paige and Noah, also attend. Rachel doesn’t understand her husband’s dislike of Ali now that they are no longer co-workers. So, when Ali is revealed as a cheater, Rachel can’t help but wondering if Jack was, or is still, her lover.
First of all, this book is more like women’s fiction than a thriller. And not in a happy rom-com way. Most, if not all, of the characters have made some pretty horrible decisions.
If you read thrillers or domestic suspense very often, the plot twists are obvious. I agree with other reviewers that this is more of a soap opera than a mystery. For these reasons, The Guilt Trip only gets 3 stars from me.
Thanks to Minotaur Books and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.
