Newlywed Joey has a deep attraction for her married neighbor Tom in upscale Melville Heights, Bristol, England in a new family thriller, Watching You.
Everyone is watching everyone in the small neighborhood. Jenna thinks Tom, who is headmaster at her school, has an inappropriate relationship with her best friend, Bess. Jenna’s mum, Frankie, thinks Tom is the leader of a gang who moves her stuff to unsettle her. She has taken to photographing Tom’s house and family at night. Freddie is Tom’s son. He uses binoculars with a camera inside to study the entire village. Nikola is Tom’s wife and Freddie’s mother. Why has she suddenly taken to her bed? She asks Alfie, Joey’s husband, to paint her rented house’s interior. Alfie and Joey live two doors down with Joey’s brother and his pregnant wife Rebecca.
There are many characters in this thriller but it was easy to keep them straight due to their strong characterizations. The plot is extremely convoluted with some wild twists and turns. I originally tried to solve Watching You like a mystery. Eventually, I gave up and just rode the waves to the end. It was a fun ride and I read the book in one exhilarating rush.
Watching You is highly recommended for thriller readers looking for a twisty read. 4.5 stars!

The Wife Between Us is the whiplash-inducing thrill ride of 2018!
Nellie is about to marry the man of her dreams, Richard a hedge fund manager in New York City. Vanessa is jealous of her ex-husband Richard’s new fiancée and attempts to stop the wedding. The Wife Between Us starts as a classic triangle with alternating chapters narrated by the two women. In this simple shell hide many secrets and mysteries. What caused Vanessa’s marriage to crumble so abruptly? What happened to Nellie in college in Florida that makes her so fearful? Is Vanessa inheriting her mother’s mental illness possibly making her an unreliable narrator (like Girl on a Train)? Is Richard’s seemingly perfect personality just a facade (like American Psycho)? There are many clues to the plot twists to come hidden in plain sight for observant readers to find.
Many books have been called the next Gone Girl but this book gets this reviewer’s vote. Both a psychological thriller and a mystery, The Wife Between Us is highly recommended as the best twisty pulse-pounding thrill ride of 2018. Beware that sleep will be lost as the book propels the reader to finish it in one sitting! 5 stars!
Thanks so much to the publisher, St Martin’s Press, and NetGalley for an advanced review copy.

Brilliantly twisty thriller with a fantastic finale!
First Lisa, then Sam and finally Quincy are the sole survivors at three separate mass murder scenes. The press starts calling them final girls, which is a horror movie term for the last survivor. Quincy has tried to forget her horrible night at Pine Cottage, where all of her friends are killed. She and her long-time live-in boyfriend are talking marriage, She has a successful baking blog. But then Lisa dies by slitting her wrists after sending Quincy a cryptic email. Has a serial killer decided to target the final girls? Can Quincy’s boyfriend or the cop who saved her year’s ago save her?
Final Girls has the most convoluted plot I’ve seen this year. Though many books’ jackets claim to be the next Gone Girl, I believe this book really deserves the comparison. The plot synopsis above is probably only a tenth of the entire plot. I had read that this book had a surprise at the end. That is a huge understatement. I suspected anyone and everyone of being the villain and still did not see the end coming. The book’s effect is like riding a roller coaster: Final Girls is that good!
Final Girls’ whipsaw pace and compelling plot makes this novel highly recommended not just for thriller fans but for anyone looking for an exciting read. Be prepared though for some sleepless nights as the book is extremely difficult to stop reading. 5 stars!
Thanks to the publisher, Dutton, and Netgalley for a review copy in exchange for an honest review. It was truly an exceptional book!
