Hiss H for Homicide Guest Post and Two Giveaways

Hiss H for Homicide Guest Post and Giveaway

Author Guest Post-From the Recipe Book of Nora Charles!

Nora Charles, the heroine of the Nick and Nora mysteries, is not only a talented amateur sleuth, she’s also one heck of a cook!  Here Nora shares some of her favorite recipes with you!

Megan Fox (aka Monte Cristo)

3 slices bread (white preferred, but it can be any type)

mayonnaise, as needed

2 slices cheese (Cheddar preferred, but it can be any)

2 sliced chicken breasts

3 large eggs, beaten

1/4 cup milk

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 tablespoon unsalted butter

powdered sugar for garnish

jam (optional)

On a work surface, lay out 2 slices of bread and spread with mayonnaise. Top each slice with 1 slice of cheese and 1 chicken breast. Put the third slice of bread on top of one stack, and flip the remaining stack on top, cheese-side down, to make a triple-decker sandwich.

Using a knife, cut the crusts off the sandwich (this helps to pinch and seal the ends). Wrap the sandwich tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes and up to 6 hours. (Wrapping the sandwich in plastic wrap compacts it and prevents the egg batter from seeping in in the next step.)

Combine the eggs and milk in a bowl. Heat the oil and butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Unwrap the sandwich and dip it in the egg batter, to coat evenly. Gently place it in the skillet, and fry, turning once, until golden brown and hot, about 5 minutes total.

Cut the Monte Cristo in half, transfer it to a plate, and garnish with powdered sugar. If preferred, spoon some jam (any flavor, blackberry is what Nick prefers!) over each half and serve immediately.

 Jimmy Fallon Breakfast Sandwich

1 egg

2 slices ham

2 slices yellow American cheese

2 slices bread or roll

tomato slice

bacon bits

Fry the egg, and right before it’s done, cover with ham slices and American cheese. Put on bread or roll and garnish with tomato slice and bacon bits.

Lest we forget….the sandwich that started it all

The Thin Man Tuna Melt

1 (6 1/2 oz.) can of tuna, drained
1/2 c. finely chopped celery
1/3 c. mayonnaise, regular or low-fat
2 tbsp. diced onion
2 tbsp. crumbled bacon bits
1/2 tsp. garlic salt or powder
4 slices cheese, Swiss or cheddar

4 thin-cut tomato slices
8 slices of your favorite bread
butter or margarine

Combine tuna, celery, mayonnaise, onion, and garlic salt and blend. Butter one side of bread, place in toaster oven. Cover with tuna mixture and spread out, then top with cheese slice. Sprinkle liberally with bacon bits. Place under broiler for one minute, then put tomato slices on top. Butter one side of remaining bread and place on top of cheese, buttered side up. Grill until golden brown on both sides, or cheese is melted. Remove, cut and serve. Serves two humans and one tubby tuxedo cat.

Nick and Nora are back in a tantalizing new mystery that’s far more dangerous than a game of cat and mouse . . .

Never one to turn away from a challenge—even when it goes against her better judgment—Nora Charles can hardly say no when an old friend of her mother’s comes to town seeking her help. The author of steamy romances has learned that her writing partner is severing their relationship and threatening to reveal dark and dirty secrets in a tell-all, and she pleads with Nora to intervene. Reluctantly agreeing to help, Nora pays a visit to the writing partner, ready to make her case—right up until the moment she discovers the woman’s lifeless body.

With the police convinced that Nora’s friend is the culprit, she and Nick begin delving into the dead woman’s past and her provocative tell-all. It soon becomes apparent that the woman had a knack for digging up dirt and wasn’t shy about exposing skeletons in closets, and before long Nora has a seemingly endless list of suspects who were at risk of having their darkest secrets revealed. With a police force intent on throwing the book at Nora’s friend and time running out, she and Nick must outwit a dangerous killer before they take their own secrets to the grave . . .
