Enola Holmes and the Clanging Coffin

Enola Holmes and the Clanging Coffin

Enola Holmes and the Clanging Coffin is set in 1861 London. Enola Holmes is the younger sister of both Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes. She works sporadically as a consultant for those who have lost things. Her  latest case involves lost memories.

While attending a funeral, she hears a faint bell ringing nearby. After investigating, a young semi clad woman is found buried alive in a coffin luckily equipped with a buried alive warning bell system. After rescuing the woman, Enola discovers that the woman can remember her first name but little else. Enola, being intrigued, decides to learn what happened to this young woman and who gave her the bruises still evident on her skin. Thus, begins a chase through London with both Sherlock and Moriarty involved.

Enola Holmes and the Clanging Coffin is the best entry in this series. It can also be read easily as a standalone novel. The plot is intriguing. The characters, especially the Holmes clan and Moriarty, are written with wit and style. They keep, more or less, to the original stories while branching out in unexpected, and feminist, ways. 5 stars for this enchanting mystery.
