Dead but Dreaming of Electric Sheep

Dead But Dreaming of Electric Sheep

Dead but Dreaming of Electric Sheep is the latest novel by the best-selling author Paul Tremblay. Slacker gamer Julia gets a job through her mostly estranged corporate bigwig mother to take a gentleman on a cross country airplane ride. Unfortunately, the gentlemen has some issues making the job much more difficult than it seems.

Here are my thoughts on this novel: excited, intrigued, confused, less intrigued, slightly bored, disappointed. That is exactly how I felt as I progressed through this novel. I was excited because any novel by Paul Tremblay promises to both exciting and completely different from the preceding one. I was initially intrigued by the sci-fi plot in a horror novel. I was confused by Bernie’s first few chapters—what is going on here. My interest started to wane at about 30% in. I was slightly bored up to the conclusion. The conclusion left me disappointed because it was totally predictable. But mostly I was disappointed because this didn’t feel like horror to me, more like science gone horribly wrong. This was especially sad coming from one of my favorite horror writers.

If you decide to take a chance on Dead but Dreaming of Electric Sheep, make sure to keep your expectations in check. It is near future science fiction, not the author’s usual horror genre. 3, as I stated earlier, disappointed, stars.

Thanks to NetGalley and William Morrow for providing me with an advanced review copy.
