If you have watched any sickly sweet Christmas romance television movies, you are ready to read Christmas People. Whether a fan of holiday romances or not, this book is a hilarious sendup of all the tropes of those movies, while still activating the feel good feeling they always impart.
Jill has been in Los Angeles for years trying, and failing, to break into the business as a screenwriter. After losing her soul-sucking straight job, she figures she might as well spend the holidays with her family. While there she runs into the man that got away and another she just dreamed of having. After befriending a homeless man, who may or may not really be Santa, she awakens in a seemingly medley of all the Christmas movies she has ever seen. How, and why, is this happening to her? Can she right all the mistakes in her romantic past? Or is she really in a coma in a hospital only imagining a better life?
Even though I don’t like romantic holiday movies, I really enjoyed Christmas People. It is also a great send up of all those cozy mysteries that I love reading. And who doesn’t want to live in such a happy and heartwarming town (especially considering what is really happening right now). 4.5 stars!
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Griffin for providing me with an advanced review copy.
