Push the Wall

Push the Wall

Frank Miller is an icon in comics. Push the Wall is his story.

You don’t have to be a fan of Batman, Daredevil, or Sin City to enjoy this memoir/instruction manual of the creative process. There is just enough of Frank’s life included to see how his career began and the influences that informed it. But not so much to feel like a vanity project. Most of this book is about creating. It is the visual artist’s equivalent of Stephen King’s On Writing.

If you ever picked up a pencil (or crayon) and drew some art, this book will provide valuable insight on how that could have turned into your lifelong career path. As it did for Frank. The book has sixteen lessons that span Frank’s life. My one disappointment is that there are few illustrations and no originals.

Push the Wall would make a great gift to comic book fans and other types of creatives too. 4 stars!
