Where There's a Will Review and Giveaway

My Review

Emily has been searching for the perfect house for months. She finally finds it with the supposedly haunted Victorian, Hadley House. Unfortunately, a television flipping show wants it too. With a large budget and chutzpah to spare, how can Pemberton on Property fail to win?

Meanwhile, Emily’s business partner, Arabella, is hired by the executrix handling the sale of the House to appraise a daguerreotype and the rest of the furnishings. Arabella’s co-appraiser is none other than her ex-husband, Levon. No one can deny that sparks still fly between them. Will they resume their ex-with-benefits status? Or will working together be the final straw in their relationship?

Arabella and Levon find a will hidden in a secret drawer of a desk in the house. Arabella decides to research the former occupants. Will the will change the house’s selling process? Could it allow Emily to win her dream home? Or will it bring forth a whole new set of questions?

Most cozy mysteries have a similar pacing and plot structure. Characters relationships and personalities are described for two to three chapters and then, boom, someone finds a dead body. Where’s There a Will doesn’t follow that pattern. It begins as a house hunting tale with a bit of romance on the side. Then, it escalates into historical fiction regarding the house’s former occupants, where there are not one but two suspicious deaths.

Though technically a cozy mystery, Where’s There a Will will surely appeal even more to historical fiction fans. The ending was romantic, adorable and definitely worth waiting for! 3 stars.

Thanks to the author and Great Escapes Virtual Book Tours for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

Emily Garland is getting married and looking for the perfect forever home. When the old, and some say haunted, Hadley house comes up for sale, she’s convinced it’s “the one.” The house is also perfect for reality TV star Miles Pemberton and his new series, House Haunters. Emily will fight for her dream home, but Pemberton’s pockets are deeper than Emily’s, and he’ll stretch the rules to get what he wants.

While Pemberton racks up enemies all around Lount’s Landing, Arabella Carpenter, Emily’s partner at the Glass Dolphin antiques shop, has been hired to appraise the contents of the estate, along with her ex-husband, Levon. Could the feuding beneficiaries decide there’s a conflict of interest? Could Pemberton?

Things get even more complicated when Arabella and Levon discover another will hidden inside the house, and with it, a decades-old secret. Can the property stay on the market? And if so, who will make the winning offer: Emily or Miles Pemberton?

  1. Thanks for the honest review and for posting on GR, too! Appreciated. So glad you liked the ending. If you’d read book 1 (The Hanged Man’s Noose) you would really understand how things came full circle for Arabella and Levon. Happy to send you a copy of that, if you’d like, just shoot me an email.
