Donuts, Deception, and Death

Author’s Guest Post

I’m Eloise Brightly and thank you for having me. I love staying at bed and breakfast lodgings. Have you ever stayed in one? They are supposed to be quaint, welcoming, beautiful, and a trail of other adjectives that make you want to stay there. But sometimes quaint turns into heavily rustic and not so appealing. Most of the places we’ve stayed have been good, but there were a few that were a little too off the mark to be considered nice.

One B&B I stayed at was not in the USA, and I was young. Way too young to have ever known not everyone across the globe has their toilet in the bathroom. Water closets or loos aren’t usually separate in America. With the internet a few years away, I didn’t have any quick research sources on how to fit in while living in another country. When I asked for the bathroom, the owner showed me the room with the sinks and bathtub. Yikes, I had to go, and there was no toilet. For a moment, I honestly didn’t think people had toilets in their house. Luckily I found the loo just in the nick of time. Otherwise, it would have been bad.

Staying at B&Bs can be like staying at other people’s houses. Some are a little more like hotels, but like I said, some can be very quaint. There was a beautiful one we stayed at in San Antonio with each room decorated in a different style. The third floor, which must have been a finished attic, had purple and gold material draping the wall like a tent. They also had a claw footed tub in the center of the room and a glass shower next to it. It was beautiful, but not the room we stayed in.

In Donuts, Deception, and Death, our sleuth ends up living next to a woman who opens a B&B with almost the same name as Daisy’s business. The neighbor doesn’t know how to run a good business and ends up doing some things that aren’t on the up and up. Mainly, she films guests in their bedroom and bathroom which is a huge no-no. But that isn’t what gets her killed, or so Daisy thinks.

Because Daisy had a motive and means, also she found her neighbor, she’s the prime suspect. Her life is about to be turned upside down. She needs to find the culprit, or she’ll end up serving time for a crime she didn’t commit.

Daisy lives in the perfect beach town, Paradise Shores, with some great people. There are also some not so great people. As she works to figure out who killed her next-door neighbor, she ends up meeting people she didn’t know and finding out about a world she had no idea exists.

Along the way, you’ll meet Daisy’s sister, Dianne, who owns a bakery in town. Dianne has some of the best cookies, cakes, and coffee for sale in Paradise Shores. And you’ll also meet David, Daisy’s brother. David works as a handyman, helping the people of Paradise Shores fix their houses and keeping Daisy’s business in tip-top shape.

I hope you enjoy the world of Paradise Shores and all the people you meet. Book 1, Donuts, Deception, and Death came out on the 20th of May, and Cupcakes, Collusion, and Casualties is out on June 10th. Book 3, Sorbet, Schemes, and Slayings will be out July 1st.
