The Cipher

The Cipher

If you found a mysterious black void in your apartment house, what would you do? That is The Cipher facing Nicholas and Nakota. I don’t think I would name it a Funhole. But that might just be me.

Nakota decides to place a jar full of insects on the lip of the Funhole. First, the insects deformed and then they died. Next, the pair send a mouse in with a leash tethering it to them. The mouse also follows the pattern. However, their third experiment has a completely different result. Nicholas worries that Nakota’s curiosity will force her to try to enter the Funhole herself.

An interesting idea surrounded by a fugue state writing style. It is adjective rich and somewhat meandering just like the characters’ lives. It definitely gives off the creepy 70s movie horror vibe. If you are tired of zombie horror (and who isn’t at this point), give The Cipher a read. It’s genuinely disturbing. 4 stars!
