One Poison Pie

One Poison Pie

Famous penultimate words, “They can’t charge me for something I didn’t do.”

Famous last words, “Your police force is a joke. They think I murdered Adele.”

—from One Poison Pie

Mia is starting a food business providing catering, a meal delivery service, and a chef training program. Her first job is catering her grandmother’s best friend Adele’s birthday party. Adele is notorious for her persnickety ways. The morning of the party Adele is found dead under the head table of her banquet—stabbed with a kitchen knife. The police naturally suspect Mia. Mia decides a good offense is the best defense and vows to find the murderer, which puts Mia clearly in the killer’s crosshairs.

This is the first full-length novel in the Kitchen Witch Mystery series. But the author has several other great cozy mystery series so rest assured you are in capable hands. The book’s plotting is excellent with many unexpected twists. However, the characters, especially Christina, are the stars! I could totally see my younger self in her thoughts and actions. The only negative is that the paranormal aspect was played down despite a possessed cat and a ghost in Mia’s house. Hopefully, the Kitchen Witch aspect will be explored more in future books in the series. Overall, I rate One Poison Pie 4 stars!

Thanks to Kensington Books and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.
